Nicole Kidman's "Grace Of Monaco" Headed Straight To Cable; Theatrical Release Quashed

Nicole Kidman's latest film Grace of Monaco–originally intended for a theatrical release during the 2013 holiday season–will finally see the light of day when it's demoted to the Lifetime network this May.

The biopic, recounting the life of actress-turned-royal Grace Kelly, first premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, however the evening's proceedings were overshadowed by a highly-publicized feud between director Oliver Dahan and Hollywood mega-producer Harvey Weinstein over the final cut of the film.

The feud escalated to the point that screenwriter Arash Amel refused to attend the premiere.

Not that the reviews were in the film's favor, with Variety calling Amel's script "agonizingly airless and contrived" and the Telegraph giving the film one star out of five.

Harvey Weinstein originally had Oscar hopes for the film, having shelled out a whopping $5 million minimum guarantee and a P&A (Purchase and Assumption) commitment of around $10 million for a minimum 800 screen run.

In a move that indicates the giving of no more fucks, Lifetime has been chosen to debut the film, avoiding the more commonly sought route of VOD or straight-to-DVD.

Grace of Monaco will air May 25 on Lifetime.
