Niecy Nash Gets Real About Her Surprise Wedding to Jessica Betts

"I don’t feel like my marriage is my coming out of anywhere, but rather a going into myself..."

In this dark timeline, Niecy Nash's surprise gay wedding truly sparks joy.

The actress-comedian gave Gay Twitter™️ the gift of a lifetime when she announced out of the blue that she’d married musician Jessica Betts, as NewNowNext previously reported.

“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” Nash tweeted on August 31, complete with a beautiful picture of her and Betts walking down the aisle. She also shared the news on her Instagram story, adding the hashtag “#PlotTwist.”

The star of TNT's Claws has shared details of her big day with People and answered some questions about coming out by getting married.

"[My marriage] has absolutely nothing to do with gender and it has everything to do with her soul. She is the most beautiful soul I have ever met in my life," she told the magazine.

"I was not suppressing my sexuality my whole life," she continued. "I love who I love. At one point in my life, I married twice and I love those people. And today I love this person. I've done everything I wanted to do on my own terms and my own way. So my choice now in a partner has nothing to do with who I've always been. It's a matter of who I am in this moment."

"I don’t feel like my marriage is my coming out of anywhere, but rather a going into myself and being honest about who I love," Nash added. "And I’m not limiting myself on what that love is supposed to look like.”

Prior to her nuptials, Nash wasn’t out publicly as a member of the queer community, nor did fans know of her relationship with Betts. The singer did appear on at least one episode of Claws alongside Nash, in which her character sang at Nash’s fictional wedding.

According to People, the couple tied the knot in front of "24 of their closest friends and family at their home in Ventura County, California, on August 29." The reception provided "custom face masks with the phrasing '#LoveWins,' personal hand sanitizers, and plenty of dancing."

Congrats again to the happy couple!
