The 2012 book No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics examined the rise and influence of seminal LGBT cartoonists like Alison Bechdel, Howard Cruse, and Ralf Koenig. Now illustrator Justin Hall, who edited the anthology, has launched a kickstarter to transform it into a documentary celebrating a new generation of queer creators.

Hall told Comicsbeat. "I like to think my book had a little something to do with paving the way, not just in the comics industry, but also in bringing comics into the queer literary world."

The year after No Straight Lines won a Lambda Literary Award, for example, the association introduced a Graphic Novel category.

Hall and filmmaker Vivian Kleiman are profiling five artists from the anthology in the film: Emeric Kennard (Haunted House), Ajuan Mance (1001 Black Men), Nicole Georges (Invincible Summer), Ivan Velez, Jr. (Tales of the Closet) and Ed Luce (Wuvable Oaf).

The aim, as Kleiman and Hall say in a video explaining their Kickstarter, is to "bring stories from the comics off the page and give a personal introduction to the dynamic artists and writers who paved the way."

So far, their Kickstarter has raised $10,500 of its $38,000 goal.
