North Carolina Gov Pat McCrory Is Now Losing At The Polls

Guess hate doesn't pay off like it used to, huh?

Pat McCrory, the North Carolina governor facing a national backlash for signing the state's new anti-LGBT law, is now losing the polls to his opponent, current Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper.

A new Elon University poll reported in the Charlotte Observer gives Cooper a 48-42% lead, with a margin of error under 4%.

The poll also gave the Governor his lowest approval rating in more than two years.

McCrory’s job approval rating was 37%, compared to 49% who said they disapprove of how he's doing and nearly 14% said they didn’t know.

Nearly 43% of the 600-plus residents polled approved of the job Cooper is doing as AG, while 27% disapprove, and 30% were unsure.

Sadly, almost half approved of HB2, the ordinance that bans trans people from the bathroom that matches their gender identity and blocks cities from passing pro-LGBT protections.

Only 39% said cities should be allowed to enact such policies.

Cooper has refused to enforce HB2, which he called a "national embarrassment."

Today Governor McCrory announced he will, if necessary, abide by a ruling by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals that allows a trans teen in Virginia to use the bathroom matching their identity.

“As governor, I will uphold my oath of office to respect these court rulings, and make sure these court rulings are abided to because I’m sworn to oath to do just that," McCrory said, just before he called respecting trans people's dignity "a major, major change in social norms."
