Noted "Humasexual" Morrissey Voices Support For Ireland Gay Marriage Vote But Criticizes Country's Animal Cruelty

Singer Morrissey was quick to add his voice of support during Ireland's historic gay marriage vote over the weekend.

The former lead singer of The Smiths offered this short-but-sweet response:

Congratulations to Ireland. The people, once again, teach the church. The people, once again, teach the politicians.

Morrissey has previously stated that he was in a relationship with a man, writing in his 2013 memoir, "Jake [Walters] and I fell together in deep collusion whereby the thorough and personal could be the only possible way and we ate up each minute of the day. There will be no secrets of flesh or fantasy; he is me and I am he."

At the time, Morrissey was quick to defend the fact that his relationship did not define him as bisexual, fervently telling The Guardian, "Unfortunately, I am not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual.

Added to his recent statement of congratulations to Ireland was this addendum:

Now, Ireland, please abolish fur farms and factory-farming and transportation of live animals, and welcome yourself completely into the 21st century.

Morrissey has been vocal (to say the least) in support of animal rights. He's gone after stars like Beyoncé and Kate Middleton for wearing of fur in the past, and at one time compared meat-eaters to pedophiles.

Most recently, he attacked Al Gore at the Live Earth event for serving meat, writing in an open letter to Rolling Stone: “Serving meat and dairy products at an event to combat climate change is like selling pistols at a gun-control rally.”
