NYC Pride Announces Theme For 2013

Looking forward to 2013? Well, you damn well should be. After all the LGBT community has accomplished in the past year, NYC Pride is proud to announce the official pride week theme for 2013: "Rain to Rainbows." There will be much to celebrate June 24th - 30th.

For the first time, same-sex marriage passed at the ballot box as MaineMarylandWashington embraced equality. Polling shows that every day more and more Americans believe in the freedom to marry.  Most recently, the Supreme Court agreed to hear two cases related to same-sex marriage. Decisions in both cases are likely to coincide with New York City's pride week in June.

The theme for 2013 aims to acknowledge these milestones and embody the adversity we’ve faced and the unceasing progression towards that magical spot somewhere over the rainbow.

"Whether it is a rainbow in the sky or a rainbow flag flying high above The Stonewall on Christopher Street in NYC, a rainbow symbolizes hope and peace after a storm of any kind," said Tish Flynn, Media Director for Heritage of Pride. "We want to show the world that there’s always a way to turn rain into rainbows."
