NYC Cop Goes Viral With Touching Pride Message

"For anyone who’s had to hide who they are. I’ve got your back. Love is Love."

A New York City cop has gone viral after sharing a heartfelt Pride tribute on social media.

Just before setting off to work NYC Pride Sunday morning, the outspoken ally posted a photo of himself wearing an "I May Be Straight But I Don't Hate" on Facebook along with a touching message of solidarity.

"I’ll be out there working at Pridefest today wearing this shirt under my uniform for a lot of reasons," he explained. "For my step brother. For my priest. For my aunts who died before they could be legally married."

"For all of the cops I have worked with over the years, including one of the best [partners] I’ve ever shared a sector car with," he continued. "For my classmate in High School [whose] parents made him sleep in a tent in his yard. For the man who cried on my shoulder about losing his partner on 9/11. For every call I went to where someone got kicked out of their house or [whose] family just didn’t understand."

He concluded: "For anyone who’s had to hide who they are. I’ve got your back. Love is Love."

More than a million people took to the streets of Manhattan for the 48th annual New York City Pride March this past Sunday, including whistle-blower Chelsea Manning, trans teenager Gavin Grimm and the ever fabulous Rhode Island Teacher of the Year Nikos Giannopoulos.

Though the festivities were mostly peaceful, 12 activists were arrested for protesting the inclusion of police and corporate sponsors in the annual march.
