NYC's Latex Ball Celebrates 25 Years Of Runway Realness

On Saturday, the 25th annual Latex Ball sashayed through Terminal 5 in New York, giving us eight hours of models, voguers, drag queens, and underground icons facing off for cash prizes.

Ballroom legend Kevin JZ Prodigy emceed the ball, which was co-sponsored by GMHC, with beats from DJ Vjuan Allure pitting representatives from the Houses of Prodigy, Chanel, Khan, LaBeija, and more against each other in fierce battles for runway glory.

Luna Khan, Father of the House of Khan and a Latex Ball organizer, gave Huffington Post a quick history lesson in ballroom culture. "It's like a basketball team and a beauty pageant!"

At the event itself, the categories ranged from traditional events—like "Best Dressed" and "Women's Face"—to more avant garde challenges: In the "Small Boys" category, men wore couture-inspired outfits, while in "OT Bizarre," Leigh Bowery-esque papier-mâché costumes were all the rage.
