New York City police are attempting to identify a man who spray painted anti-gay graffiti on a vacant East Village building.

The vandal wrote the threatening message "Kill the Gay Away" early Thursday morning on the front gate of 11 Avenue A, New York Post reports.

NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is currently investigating the incident.

The Crime Stoppers unit has released surveillance video and images of the suspect, who is described as 5'6" with curly long blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a green shirt and carrying a yellow messenger bag.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has condemned the homophobic vandal on Twitter. “In New York we have zero tolerance for this sort of vile and cowardly act of hate,” he wrote. “I’m directing the State Police Hate Crimes Unit to assist the NYPD with its investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
