OMAs Update: Robyn to Trick or Treat with Flaming Lips

Keep your eyes peeled, trick-or-treaters: Robyn is invading L.A. on October 31st!

Swedish pop megastar — and maybe the hardest-working touring performer in music right now (hasn’t she been on the road since 2009 at this point?) — ROBYN is now slated to headline the big, juicy O Music Awards 2, which are gonna stomp all over L.A. this Halloween (Oct 31st).

The exact OMAs/Robyn performance location hasn’t been released yet, but expect something crazy and outlandish and probably kind of fab. And that ain’t all! Those wild and showy Flaming Lips folks are also gonna rock the OMAs house on 10/31, as they’re anchoring the big Steve Jobs musical tribute part of the show. Maybe Wayne Coyne (who’s up for the OMA Digital Genius Award) will float over the crowd in a giant iPod Nano???

The OMAs will kick off on 10/31 at 11:30pm ET/ 8:30pm PT on OMusicAwards.com. Old-school-TV types can view Robyn’s opening performance on MTV, but the full event will stream across MTV.com, VH1.com, CMT.com, LogoTV.com and MTVHive.com.

Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne is really into the whole "bear scene."

This OMAs is the second outing for the awards event, which honors/celebrates/hypes digital music and online stuff. Already over 12 million votes have been cast in a truckload of crazy categories.

Here’s an official quote:

Battling it out for the most nominations are artists that run the gamut from web sensations to pop royalty to an outspoken legend. Leading with two nominations each are Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator (Most Outrageous Tweet and Best Web Born Artist), Lady Gaga (Fan Army FTW and Must Follow Artist on Twitter), The Weeknd (Best Web-Born Artist and Too Much Ass for TV), Katy Perry (Best Lyrics Video and Best Artist with a Cameraphone), Justin Bieber (Fan Army FTW and Best Artist with a Cameraphone), Demi Lovato (Fan Army FTW and Best Artist with a Cameraphone), Sinead O’Connor (Oops! I Did It Online Award and Best Vintage Viral Video) and Adam Lambert (Fan Army FTW and Must Follow Artist on Twitter). Other nominated artists include Cher, Nirvana, Lil Wayne, Iron Maiden, Dolly Parton, Bjork, Wayne Coyne, Scissor Sisters, and Big Freedia.

Got all that? Another part of the OMAs will feature a massive dance-a-thon event that aims to break the Guinness World Records® title for for the longest dance marathon by a team. And this is a charity function benefiting a mess of great LGBT-youth-focused organizations. Read more about it!

And back to Robyn… Did you see her uber-cute performance of “Call Your Girlfriend” on Ellen last week? Wing-headed hoodies for everyone, please!
