"Once Upon A Time" Conjuring Up Its First LGBT Storyline

How long before Storybrooke gets its own gay bar?

Once Upon a Time is returning for its fifth season on September 27, and producers are promising the show's first full LGBT storyline.

“I would say that we know that [the LGBT] community have been big supporters of the show and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that,” said OAT co-creator Edward Kitsis.

In Season 3, sparks flew between Mulan (Jamie Chung) and Princess Aurora (Sarah Bolger), but were dampened quickly when Aurora became pregnant and Mulan departed.

Chung is returning to OUAT this season so there's a good chance she'll be involved—though it could be a new character. (How about a gay Mowgli?)

“We want the show to reflect the world as it is now,” co-creator Adam Horowitz told reporters, “and whether that’s going to be with any particular character we’re not going to say.”

Added Kitsis, “But it is something that we’re going to do this year.”

When Season 5 starts, Storybrooke will be dealing with Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) becoming the more sinister Dark Swan, so the gay character may not surface until the second half of Season 5, which premieres in early 2016.
