From the military high-waisted effect popularized during WW1 up to today's hip-hop infused street styles seen in labels from Opening Ceremony to VFILES, menswear has followed the industry's overall oeuvre in changing with the times while maintaining a consistent nod to the classics.

The first New York Fashion Week: Men's–launching today at 10:30am with Cadet–is a 4-day showcase for US spring/summer 2016 collections from a lengthy list of fashion A-listers including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Thom Browne, Michael Bastian, Rag and Bone and more.

So why now? Simple reason: Sales.

According to Business Insider, from 2009 to 2015, US online men's clothing sales grew at an average annual rate of 17.3 percent to $9.6 billion while in-store sales grew at an average annual rate of 4.1 percent to $10.9 billion from 2010 to 2015.

Can NYFWM help carry the momentum through to 2016? We'll soon find out.

For now, take a look at 100 years of Men's Fashion in 3 Minutes.
