One Million Moms Steaming Over Kmart Jingle Bells Ad; Chelsea Clinton, Brandon Ayanbadejo At Emery Awards: Today In Gay

Kmart's Jingle Bells ad, with hunky carolers jingling their junk instead of bells, has given One Million Moms a case of the Scrooges. The reactionary group sent out a statement blasting the box store's tongue-in-cheek holiday ad:

Kmart (Sears Brands, LLC) has a new commercial that is not only offensive - but this once family department store has made a deliberate decision to produce controversial advertisements instead of wholesome ones. This is a terrible plan on Kmart's part, especially at this time of year!

The title of the current ad is "Show Your Joe," and Kmart includes sexual content during a Christmas hand bell choir performance. The commercial focuses on several men wearing Joe Boxer underwear thrusting in a sexualized way to the tune of Jingle Bells. They start gyrating and shaking themselves instead of the hand bells, intending to make their "bells" ring in song - which is highly inappropriate.

Normally, we do not provide a link since One Million Moms does not want to contribute to this filth being spread around even more, but we made an exception this time to show how ridiculous and disgusting this ad really is.

One Million Moms has called on its followers to attack Kmart on Facebook and Twitter @kmart, so if you'd like to do the opposite, feel free.

We don't know about you but we're doing our Christmas shopping at the Big K.

Speaking of anti-gay poltroons, the National Organization for Marriage is seeing red—in their checkbook. NOM's lobbying branch ended 2012 some $2.7 million in the hole. With marriage equality winning the day in four major ballot initiatives across the country, the hate business isn't as profitable as it used to be.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute, which provides a safe and supportive environment for New York's LGBT youth and operates the Harvey Milk School, held its 2013 Emery Awards on November 13  at Cipriani Wall Street. Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton was honored for her work on marriage equality and human rights. Other recipients included Super Bowl champ and equality defender Brendon Ayanbadejo, MMA fighter Fallon Fox and Athlete Ally founder Hudson Taylor.

In addition, author and activist David Mixner received HMI's first-ever  Lifetime Achievement Award.

"We're all better off when everybody gets to be the author of his or her own destiny," said Clinton, who is the vice chair of her family's Clinton Foundation. "We have more ideas, we have more strength, we have more promise, we have more purpose... I look forward to a world in which places like HMI don't have to exist, but for as long as they do, please know how grateful so many of us are that you do."

Pop singer Betty Who was on hand to fete the honorees, who joined guests at an afterparty, where Samantha Ronson worked the turntables.
