Many of us do it, sure, it's just not the kind of thing we'd announced to a room full of lawmakers.

But that's just what British Conservative Party politician Crispin Blunt (the uncle of Golden Globe-winner Emily Blunt) did during a hearing for the UK’s proposed Psychoactive Substances Bill, when he "outed" himself to the room at large, revealing that he is a popper user.

Poppers, for the uninformed, is a colloquial term given to a chemical inhalants that relax muscles throughout the body.

"There are some times when something is proposed which becomes personal to you and you realize the government is about to do something fantastically stupid," he told the House of Commons on Wednesday. "And I think in those circumstances one has a duty to speak up. I use poppers. I out myself as a popper user and would be directly affected by this legislation. I'm astonished to find it's proposing to be banned and frankly so would very many other gay men. If I follow my own mindset reaction to this, it simply serves to bring the whole law into disrepute."

He warned that respect for the law would "fly out the window" for those that use poppers, reasoning that banning them would only serve to drive the supply of the underground .
