Oprah Talks Drag And Tells RuPaul: “I Knew You Were My Kind Of Human”

The two queens kiki in the February issue of "O Magazine."

The February issue of O Magazine has started hitting newsstands, so if you’re a fan of RuPaul then you might want to run out and hunt down a copy.

In the special issue, the Queen of Daytime TV, Oprah Winfrey, sits down for a kiki with the queen of all queens, RuPaul as they chat about “life, liberty and the pursuit of fabulous”โ€”and the interview more than delivers.

O Magazine/Hearst

From the very beginning of their chat, Oprah tells Ru that she knew that he was “my kind of human” when she first heard him say his classic line: “We’re born naked and the rest is drag.”

If you have listened to any of Oprah’s talks over the years, or watched her Super Soul Sunday series you know that the conversation would quickly turn to RuPaul’s spiritual journey throughout his lifeโ€”and specifically how drag is actually for everyone.

“Drag really applies to all of us,” Oprah says in the interview. “It’s whatever we put on after we get out of the shower, right?”

“Absolutely,” answers Ru, before adding: “If you have the power to control how people see and interpret you, why not use it?”

The Drag Race host goes onto talk about the impact of the VH1 reality series, DragCon and what difficult choices he has made to fulfill his destiny.

But it’s his answer to Oprah’s question about what he thinks is his true purpose on earth that prompts her to say: “That’s one of the best answers I’ve ever heard.”

Come through, Mama Ru!

We better see Oprah behind that judges’ table on an upcoming season of Drag Race. Until then, head to your local newsstand to pick up the February issue of O Magazine to see the two queens kiki together.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 3 premieres Thursday, January 25 at 8/7c on VH1.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
