MN Restaurant Offers Free Wedding To Gay Couple If Marriage Equality Passes

A lot of folks are excited at the prospect that marriage equality will come to Minnesota very soon: The Minneapolis restaurant Hell's Kitchen is so keyed up, its offering a free wedding celebration for one couple on August 1, the first day same-sex pairs can wed (assuming the bill is made law).

The owners posted a message on Facebook:

Our wedding for up to 100 guests will include champagne, a beautiful dinner buffet, bartenders, servers (who love to gussy up for weddings), candles, linen-covered tables, live music during dinner, and even free parking. Not wanting to miss out on this privilege, the Pastry Chefs at Angel Food Bakery will provide a gorgeous rainbow wedding cake surrounded by a spectacular array of pride cupcakes on sparkling tiered platters.

"But wait! There's more!" Once we've cleared the floor for dancing, DJ Shannon Blowtorch has offered to rock the walls of history with an after-party til 2am.

You're of course free to have the actual ceremony elsewhere at your own expense before your celebration at Hell's Kitchen, but if you want to get married on our stage, we'll even provide the officiants, because not just one, but two of our owners (Mitch and Tony) are non-denominational ordained ministers.

Trust us, they take this honor seriously.

The restaurant's owners are even willing to have the affair set for after the stroke of midnight, making the lucky couple the first gay twosome to legally jump the broom in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

This isn't the first time Hell's Kitchen has stepped up for its queer patrons: Last year, when a customer called for a boycott because HK opposed Minnesota’s proposed amendment against gay marriage, the owners stuck to their guns in an open Facebook letter:

Hell’s Kitchen (and Angel Food Bakery) always have and always will truly love, embrace, and supports the right of our GLBT employees, customers, and community to live authentic lives. We’re proud that Minnesotans from all walks of life have always felt at home here, and will continue to work hard on behalf of ideals dear to our hearts.

That gives us a warm fuzzy feeling in our gut. Y'know what else would? A slice of that rainbow wedding cake. (Hint, hint.)
