Oregon Councilman Tells Gay Man: "I’ll Spit On Your Grave” After You Die Of AIDS

Councilman Lou Nakapalau refused to apologize for his bigoted remark.

A councilman in Echo, Oregon, refused to apologize for telling a gay man, “When you croak of AIDS (Anally Injected Death Serum) I’ll spit on your grave!”

Echo City, Oregon councilmember Lou Nakapalau got into an online argument with director Joe Wilson on the Facebook page for Wilson's documentary Kumu Hina, about a trans woman in Hawaii.

While it began with Nakapalau griped about transgender workers wanting to be protected by federal anti-discrimination laws, its soon got personal. Nakapalau said he was “sick of the LGBTQ crowd shoving their keyed up agenda down my throat.”

He then made his AIDS comment, adding an anti-gay slur.

Nakapalau deleted the post but refused to apologize, even after the council pressured him to. Instead, the council voted to issue a formal (non) apology of its own.

“The Echo City Council would like to extend its sincerest apology to those who were offended by comments made by a council member in a Facebook dialog reported by the East Oregonian,” the statement reads. “Comments of individual council members on their personal social media accounts do not have any endorsement or approval of the council as a whole nor do they represent city policy.”

At the meeting, Nakapalau sat silently as residents complained about his bigotry.

“I’m absolutely disgusted," said one woman, "and I think any self-respecting council would throw him off,”
