Oscar Wilde Meets “Real Housewives” in Queer Immersive Musical
Brooklyn theater is going Wilde!
A queer nightclub "dance party" musical, inspired by Oscar Wilde and reality television like the Real Housewives franchise, is heading to the stage.
Oscar at the Crown "is set far in a dystopian future, where little has survived save for sequins, reality TV, and the complete works of Oscar Wilde," according to an official synopsis.
"The show aims to challenge social media-obsessed sensibilities of today and push attendees to dance in the face of fascism."
Executive-produced by Jenn Maley, this new immersive theatrical experience comes from the minds of queer performance collective The Neon Coven’s co-founders: creator-star Mark Mauriello, composer-choreographer Andrew Barret Cox, and director Shira Milikowsky.
Mauriello stars as Wilde, one of literature’s most prominent and flamboyant queer figures, opposite Zofia Weretka, Michelle Geosits, Brandon Looney, and Jada Temple as Vicki, Ramona, Sonja, and Erika. The cast also includes Kerri George, David Merino, Brandon Alberto, Kayla Brock, Samara Cohen (aka Princess Lockeroo), Lyric Danae, and Sarah Lewandowski.
Oscar at the Crown begins January 18 and runs through February 2 at Brooklyn's 3 Dollar Bill in New York.
