Out Actor Ben Whishaw To Play Gay Spy In BBC Thriller "London Spy"

Ben Whishaw, best known as the new Q in the James Bond franchise, will return to the espionage game as a gay spy in BBC Two's upcoming drama London Spy.

Scripted by acclaimed novelist Tom Rob Smith, the five-part series will debut in 2015.

According to The Independent:

Danny [Whishaw] is an outgoing and pleasure-seeking romantic who becomes embroiled in the world of British espionage after falling for the enigmatic Alex.

But when Alex disappears, Danny must decide whether he is prepared to find out what has happened to him.

Smith declared Whishaw "quite simply one of the best actors in the country," and  said it was "an extraordinary privilege" to have him in the cast.  The openly gay writer garnered critical acclaim for first novel, the thriller Child 44.

Whishaw is also still slated to play legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in an upcoming  biopic.
