Out Actor Matt Lucas Is Returning To "Doctor Who"

"I'm chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the Tardis," said Lucas.

Out actor Matt Lucas is returning to Doctor Who when the show's tenth season debuts next year.

The Little Britain star will reprise his role from last year's Christmas special, where he played Nardole, the lovable assistant to River Song (Alex Kingston).

"I'm chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the Tardis for some more adventures," says Lucas, who joins the twelfth Doctor, played Peter Capaldi, Kingston, and Pearl Mackie, who plays new companion Bill, when the show starts filming June 20 in Cardiff. "I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl."

"I'm delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the Tardis," says writer-producer Steven Moffat. "And this time it's not just for Christmas, he's sticking around."

Moffatt called Lucas "one of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth."
