Actor Stephen Fry, 57, has confirmed that he plans to marry his 27-year-old boyfriend Elliott Spencer, after a tabloid leaked the news that he had registered for a marriage license.

The out and proud Hobbit star took matters into his own hands from there, revealing to his 8 million+ Twitter followers:

Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!

The BBC has confirmed that the Fry gave formal notice at a registry office in Dereham, Norfolk, where the ceremony will reportedly take place. “Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule,” said the actor's personal assistant.

The two were first seen together in November, and reportedly became much closer over the summer. Fry has been open about his battles with depression and drug abuse and friends say Spencer has been instrumental in bringing him back to life.

"Stephen and Elliot get on brilliantly together," says a friend. "It’s fantastic to see Stephen with a smile on his face again... Elliot seems to have given him the confidence to live his life again. It’s great to have the old Stephen back."
