Out Rugby Star Gareth Thomas Stars In Stunning Guinness Ad

Never Alone

Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas stunned the sports world when he came out as gay five years ago, becoming one of the first openly gay male athletes actively playing a team sport.

He has since retired from the game, but remains a champion of equality, lending his voice and presence to the LGBT community, winning Stonewall's Hero Of The Year Award, and voted the UK's Most Influential Gay Person.

He's kept a high profile in the UK, appearing on Celebrity Big Brother and Dancing On Ice, and thankfully dodged a bullet when his proposed biopic inexplicably starring Mickey Rourke fizzled.

Phew

Gareth is starring in a stunning new Guinness ad, in which he discusses his biggest fear playing rugby, and it had nothing to do with broken noses and shattered bones.

They've also released a four-minute short film, which goes into further detail:

"Gareth Thomas: Never Alone tells the story of how the former Wales captain’s greatest fear wasn’t the opposition he faced on the pitch, but the fear of rejection from everything he had known, because of his sexuality. The film celebrates the courage of Gareth, and most importantly, the empathy shown by his teammates when he came out, showing that even when he felt he was on his own and at his lowest point, he was always part of a team."
