Out WNBA Star Brittney Griner Attacked By Knife-Wielding Maniac

WNBA star Brittney Griner and several  teammates were attacked by a man wielding a knife while visiting Shenyang, China. Griner received minors wounds but her teammates were unharmed.

A center with the Phoenix Mercury and one of the top players in the league, Griner was in China playing for the Beijing Great Wall in an away game against the Liaoning Hengye.

She went online to reassure fans and friends she was okay:

First let me say I'm ok!!!! But last night me and 3 my teammates got chase and attack by a man with a big ass knife got a little scratch and my teammates walk away unharmed!

He chase us into our bus and had us corned yelling at us then he finally left! Ugh lets just say I'm ready to get out this city we are visiting! Life can be took at any moment! Cherish every moment! AGAIN IM OK! Thank you to everyone that has been checking on me!

The three players were walking from a practice arena to their bus when a man began yelling and swinging a knife wildly, eventually chasing the women onto their bus.

He cut Griner on the elbow but the 6-foot-8 all-star was wearing a winter coat and the knife barely cut her skin. Griner didn't require a trip to the hospital.

"I was thinking I was going to end up stabbed in China and if he got to us at the back of the bus, I was going to have to fight this man with a knife," Griner said in an email to the AP. "The guy was clearly either mentally ill or very drunk... He was yelling about us hitting his wife and it was pretty clear he had no idea who we were."

Griner and her girlfriend, fellow basketball player Glory Johnson, got engaged in August.
