Pakistani Trans Activist Shot 8 Times Dies After Hospital Neglect, Discrimination

Her friends were reportedly propositioned for sex several times while waiting for her in the hospital.

A Pakistani trans activist who was reportedly neglected at a hospital after coming in to be treated for eight gun shot wounds has now died.

Earlier this week, we reported on Alesha's troubling story, including the alleged discrimination she faced at Lady Reading Hospital after being shot by a gang known for exploiting trans people.

Her friends from the group Trans Action Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa then posted on Facebook that the activist wasn't being given proper treatment and was just placed in a corridor next to the bathroom.

A spokesperson for the hospital said that the staff "was only acting as per the complaints of those admitted," as they moved Alesha to the women's ward per their request, but the female patients felt uncomfortable and made them take her elsewhere.

On Thursday afternoon, members of Trans Action protested outside the Faqirabad police station with Alesha's body, begging the police and local government officials to take action against her murderers.

They've since reported on their Facebook page that the accused killer was caught on Saturday morning and is now behind bars.
