Parents Publish Photo Of Text That Caused Fatal Crash

A 22-year-old University of Northern Colorado student was killed when crashed his vehicle while texting a friend. Alexander Heit never finished the mundane message, drifted into oncoming traffic, jerked the steering wheel and went off the road, rolling his car. His parents released a photo from the crash hoping it will prevent further tragedies.

The photo, published Wednesday in The Greeley Tribune, shows Heit was responding to a friend by typing "Sounds good my man, seeya soon, ill tw"  just before the fatal crash. In stark contrast to often violent, bloody images usually found in highly-produced PSA's, the image of Heit's iPhone strikes a markedly different tone.

"In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you," Sharon Heit, Alexander's mother, said.
