"Grease 2" Director Patricia Birch Reflects on Working With Tab Hunter

"Reproduction!"

Pat Birch is one of the most legendary choreographers in Broadway and Hollywood history. She was behind the dance moves for shows like You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, A Little Night Music, and the mega-popular musical, Grease.

The classic movie is turning 40 this year, and to celebrate, New York's Metrograph theater, in partnership with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is hosting a screening of Grease with Birch in attendance to talk about her time working on the film.

After teaching moves to Danny Zuko and the other T Birds, Birch went onto direct the cult classic sequel, Grease 2, where she worked with Tab Hunter, the out Hollywood heartthrob who recently passed away.

In a conversation with Birch, she told NewNowNext what it was like working with Hunter on the picture that initially flopped at the box office, but has amassed a cult following over the years: "The sex musical number ['Reproduction'] was hysterical. We had a great time doing that," she recalled. "Tab was fun. We were in hysterics the whole time, we just laughed our way through it."

After Grease 2, Birch went onto choreograph numbers for other films like, Big, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, and The First Wives Club, where she shared what it was like working with Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, and Goldie Hawn on the movie's iconic closing number:

"I had fun working on it, and I loved doing the number with the three of them. It was a lot of fun, and they are so talented. How could you not like working with them? And they are such pros."

Grease 2, Elvira AND The First Wives Club? It's like a marathon of our favorite movies.
