When she’s not reading unruly concertgoers for filth, Miss Patti LaBelle loves to cook.
“I’m not bragging, not patting myself on the back, but I cook, I think, better than I sing,” she told Rolling Stone. “I cook my face off, honey.”
This weekend, she premiered Patti LaBelle’s Place on the Cooking Channel—for which we are eternally grateful. Along with some yummy recipes and sassy one-liners, we got pearls of LaBelle wisdom, like “If you have a lot of guests, you better make them [crab cakes] tiny, ‘cause everybody don’t deserve all that crab meat.”
Whoopi Goldberg and Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams came by to take a whiff of her Over the Rainbow Mac and Cheese, as did Patti’s Dancing with the Stars partner, Artem Chigvintsev. Patti even sang a little DMX.
We’re a little nervous about those nails of hers, though—we don’t want to find a French manicured press-on in our parfait.
But honestly we’d eat anything Patti LaBelle made for us—even if it had a nail, an eyelash and one of her veneers in it.
