Paul Walker, "Fast & Furious" Star, Dies In Car Accident

A statement on his Facebook page reads:

It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.

He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.

Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences

Walker's friend was driving a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Hollywood. They were on their way to a benefit for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, when they crashed at about 3:30pm PST. After a witness called 911, officers found a vehicle on fire, and the two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office reports that speed was a factor in the accident.

Walker, who was raised Mormon but was no longer affiliated with the church, was working on the seventh Fast & Furious film when he died.  He also starred in fan favorites She's All That, Varsity Blues and Joy Ride, and had another movie, Hours, coming out December 13.
