Exclusive: Spend "Every Morning" With Peppermint and Laith Ashley

The "Drag Race" legend reveals her sweet new music video.

The last time we saw Peppermint on our screens, she was singing at Celebrating America, part of President Joe Biden's inauguration festivities last week. But now, she's gone from Celebrating America to celebrating cozy mornings at home with Laith Ashley!

Peppermint had us clutching our pearls with the steamy music video for her previous single, “Best Sex,” off her latest album, A Girl Like Me: Letters To My Lovers. The visuals show Pep getting intimate with various scruffy men, and as they roll around in bed, she calls them out on their infidelities and player ways.

But in her new music video, "Every Morning," the Drag Race legend shows us a sunnier, softer side as she sings about waking up and basking in the glow of being in a loving relationship.

"This song is a fantasy against the backdrop that 2020 was the deadliest year on record for trans women, and most murders are committed by our boyfriends and lovers who are ashamed of us," Pep tells NewNowNext. "Many trans people have to overcome a lot of personal and social obstacles just to survive. Discrimination, violence can stand in the way of leading a healthy and productive life. 'Every Morning' is the opposite of that. This video depicts a couple in the throes of love and romance, and a partnership where the leading man adores his partner rather than being ashamed of her... which again is the norm for many."

Not only does Pep get to spend time in bed with her BF in the video, but we also get a cameo from trans actor-model Laith Ashley, who lends his pipes to the song.

In the past, the New York City nightlife icon broke barriers as the first openly transgender contestant cast on Drag Race, and the first openly trans woman to originate a principal role on Broadway (Head Over Heels).

Peppermint has kept busy since her time on the Great White Way, too. Her album aside, Pep regularly appears on OUTtvgo’s Translation. The weekly roundtable series features Pep and her Drag Race sisters Jiggly Caliente, Sonique, and Carmen Carrera as they discuss topics like politics and dating from their perspectives as trans people. You can also catch her on Pepp Talks, her Black movie review series on Twitch.
