Known as much for her controversial plastic surgeries as her biting commentary on Fashion Police, Joan Rivers is widely known for speaking her mind and commanding attention. She nabbed her big break in 1965 after making appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. In 1989 she won an Emmy for her syndicated talk show. Since then she has also found success in her QVC jewelry line, memoirs, stand-up comedy, and award show presentations; she is regarded as a trailblazer for female comedians. She and her daughter Melissa starred in their own reality show, Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best.
