A small woman with a large comedic punch, Wanda Sykes was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and raised in Washington, DC. Sykes attended Hampton University, earning a Bachelor of Science in marketing and soon after in 1986 went to work for the National Security Agency. Being unsatisfied with her position at the NSA, she decided to take a stab at stand up comedy, where she performed for the first time at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase and in 1992 would shine brightly as an opening act for Chris Rock. Since then, her career has been plentiful, writing for and starring in shows such as The Chris Rock Show and Wanda At Large. Sykes is also no stranger to the silver screen, being featured in Pootie Tang, Monster-in-Law alongside Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, and most recently Ice Age: Continental Drift.  In 2008, Sykes came out as a lesbian at a same-sex marriage rally in Las Vegas, where she also revealed that she had been married to her current partner, Alex.   HIDE
