Like Every Other Millennial, Pete Buttigieg Met His Husband on a Dating App

"As soon as I saw his pic... I was like 'I gotta meet this guy.'"

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has become one of the most talked about candidates in the 2020 presidential race—surging to third place in a recent Iowa poll.

He is well spoken, confident, and has big ideas for fighting against Trump, and how Democrats can win back the White House—but in a new CNN special Buttigieg provided the answer for our most pressing question: How he met his husband, Chasten Glezman.

Surprise, surprise he met Glezman the way most people meet their significant others these days: On a dating app. But Mayor Pete was not "woofing" anyone, he told CNN's Van Jones that he first encountered Glezman on Hinge.

"As soon as I saw his pic, there was something in his eyes, and I was like 'I gotta meet this guy,'" Buttigieg told Jones. "And then I did. I was trying to keep up with him, and what I found was that I’m still trying to keep up with him in a lot of ways."

In a New York Times profile on the couple last year Glezman said he joined Hinge because he "wanted a platform where you’re not necessarily inundated with hookup culture and sex." Glezman also revealed how the two met in August 2015, shortly after Buttigieg publicly came out in May of that year.

On April 1 Buttigieg announced that his team has raised more than $7 million in the first quarter of the year. He is the first Democrat candidate to publicly reveal his first quarter figure.

We lover that Mayor Pete is talking about his relationship on the campaign trail, and when asked during an appearance on The View earlier this year if America is ready for a gay president, he said “there’s only one way to find out,” and noted he got re-elected in Indiana by over 80% of the vote after coming out.
