#Pizza4Equality Raises More Than $160,000 For LGBT Homeless Youth

Saddened than more than a quarter of a million dollars could be raised simply for a business that promised to discriminate, activist (and NewNowNext contributor) Scott Wooledge wanted to see that same kind of spirit aimed at something positive—helping homeless LGBT youth.

He launched the #Pizza4Equality campaign, encouraging people to donate to The True Colors Fund, founded by pop icon and uber-LGBT ally Cyndi Lauper. Some 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT.

On Friday, Wooledge met up with Lauper and True Colors’ Executive Director Gregory Lewis  and handed over an oversized check for $160,000."I am very proud of what was accomplished in less than a month," said Wooledge in a statement. "I am glad we were able to make a giant statement of love and support for our most vulnerable youth. The takeaway for me is these online organizing tools are tremendously empowering."
