Steven Canals Talks “Pose” Season 3 on Latest Logo Live

"We've dubbed it Season 3.2," said the series' co-creator.

We don’t know about you, but we have certainly been missing the Pose ballroom this year.

For the latest episode of Logo’s twice-weekly Instagram Live show, host Johnny Sibilly was joined by two television trailblazers: Star Trek Discovery star Wilson Cruz and Pose co-creator Steven Canals. During Sibilly’s conversation with Canals, the conversation naturally led to Pose, and how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted shooting the Emmy Award-winning series’ third season.

“We’ve dubbed it Season 3.2 to deal with all of the madness of Miss Rona,” Canals told Sibilly. The two know one another because Sibilly memorably played Costas, the boyfriend of Pray Tell (Billy Porter), who dies of complications from AIDS in Season 1.

When asked what fans can expect from the new season, Canals teased how the new batch of episodes is all about “how do your ’ride or dies’ show up for you when shit hits the fan?” He also spilled some tea that Blanca (MJ Rodriguez) will be in a relationship, and her boyfriend, Christopher, will be played by Jeremy Pope, who made headlines earlier this year for his Emmy-nominated role in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood.

Canals also dished about how working with the cast and crew of Pose allowed him to “meet so many incredible people and forge new friendships and new bonds.”

He still pinches himself that he gets to work in the medium that he escaped to as a child. “Growing up poor in the projects during the crack and AIDS epidemics, film and television was a salvation more than outlet,” Canals added. “I never thought I could create content, I was a consumer of content.”

In addition to Pose, there is plenty of queer content to consume these days. What has Canals been binging beyond his show’s iconic ballroom scenes? Watch his full conversation with Sibilly below to find out.
