"Pose" Star Calls Out Coach for Exploiting Pride, Misgendering Her

"You're not following the true stories of the LGBTQ community," says Dominique Jackson.

Actress Dominique Jackson, star of the new FX series Pose, is calling out fashion company Coach for capitalizing on the LGBTQ community during Pride Month and misgendering her on an invitation to one of their events.

"So, happy Pride, everyone, I hope you guys have been watching and enjoying Pose," the actress begins the Instagram video. "As we're doing something like this, a lot of stuff comes by, and that is that a lot of companies join in on the Pride celebration to show they're all-inclusive when they’re really not. They don't research us. They don’t understand us. They don’t attempt to comprehend us."

One of the companies Jackson is referring to is Coach. She says the company invited her to share her story and, using an invitation that misgendered her, the brand invited her to attend one of their Pride events.

"They offered nothing. Not a car ride. Nothing. Not a pocketbook. Nothing. Then one of their representatives contacts me to invite me to something called their 'Pride Ball' and misgendered me!" Jackson says. "You didn’t do your research. You're not following the true stories of the LGBTQ community, 'cause you would know that a woman like myself should never be misgendered. It's so insulting."

The experience left a sour taste in the entertainer's mouth leaving her unsure about buying from the brand in the future.

"I don’t think I ever want to use your products or buy your products ever again," Jackson says. "I'm going to Louis [Vuitton]!"

On Twitter, where the star also posted the video, Coach responded with an apology and an invitation to Jackson, and her peers, to come in and help the company learn from this unfortunate experience.

Jackson stars alongside Billy Porter, MJ Rodriguez, and Angelica Ross in Ryan Murphy’s new drama Pose, airing Sundays on FX. The show features the largest recurring cast of trans actors ever in a scripted series.
