“Pose” Stars Performing Live for LGBTQ Benefit Concert to Celebrate Finale, Renewal
Category is: cabaret chic.
It'll be tens across the board when stars from the trailblazing FX series Pose perform live July 23 at New York City's Cutting Room for a special benefit concert celebrating the show's first season finale, Playbill reports.
The concert will also celebrate recent news that, despite disappointing ratings, Pose has been renewed for a second season and will return in 2019.
Focusing on gay and transgender performers in New York City’s 1980s ballroom scene, Pose has made history with the most trans series regulars ever in an American scripted TV series. Additionally, the production has employed more than 100 trans actors, crew members, and consultants.
Dyllón Burnside, who plays Ricky on the series, headlines the Up Close and Personal concert. He previously starred on Broadway in the Tupac Shakur musical Holler If Ya Hear Me and appeared in NBC’s Peter Pan Live.
Burnside will be joined by Mj Rodriguez, who plays Blanca. Rodriguez also got her start in musical theater, appearing in Rent and Runaways off-Broadway.
All proceeds from the event will benefit GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network), the leading national organization committed to providing safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ students.
Ryan Murphy, who created Pose with Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, is likewise donating 100% of his profits from the series to various LGBT charities.
Expect a special appearance by Ryan Jamaal Swain, who plays Damon, and surprise performances by other friends of the show. Emil Wilbekin, president and founder of Native Son, is also scheduled to appear.
