Though Samira Wiley’s Poussey met her untimely end on the last season of Orange Is The New Black, the fan favorite has gotten a second life thanks to a new promotional video from Netflix.
“Orange Is The New Black Mirror” opens on Poussey’s BFF Taystee (Danielle Brooks) lying in her bed at Litchfield Penitentiary. As she drifts off to sleep, Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” starts to play and Taystee is sent straight to Tucker’s, the bar from Black Mirror’s “San Junipero” episode.
As fans of Black Mirror will remember, San Junipero is the simulated universe that elderly people can visit via virtual reality software. This world was featured in its namesake episode, which became a standout in the new season for its nuanced depiction of an LGBT romance.
Here, the original characters of Yorkie (Mackenzie Davis) and Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) are replaced by Poussey and Taystee, respectively.
Together they drink Jack and cokes, dance to 80s synth-pop and begin to rekindle their legendary friendship. That is until the clock strikes midnight and it’s time for Taystee to make her way back to reality.
Orange is the New Black Season 5 will debut on Netflix June 9.
