Powerhouse Darlene Love Belts Out "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" On Letterman One Last Time: WATCH

Singer Darlene Love let out all her holiday spirit on Friday when she performed her 1963 classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" on The Late Show with David Letterman. It was Love's 28th and final performance of the holiday classic on the show before Letterman retires in May.

She first sang the song on Late Night in 1986, and has had accompaniment ranging from a simple four-piece band to the outrageous, show-stopping send-off she received this year—backup singers, a horn section and Late Show band leader Paul Shaffer pounding the keyboard.

Love, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee (and subject of the Oscar-winning doc Twenty Feet from Stardom) told The New York Times the number ends with Late Night:

She has vowed not to sing it for any other TV talk-show hosts after David Letterman, the man who gave her an on-air platform to perform it for nearly 30 years.

“People say, ‘He can’t demand that,'” Ms. Love explained, sweeping back her curly platinum hair. “I say, ‘He’s not demanding.’ I made a point myself, and I want to do it just for David.”
