Already a prime travel destination in Eastern Europe, Prague is upping-the-ante with its very own, first-ever Pride festival this summer! Though a Pride virgin, Prague is no stranger to the LGBT community. The Czech capital boasts a wonderfully diverse and friendly population and they have organized a five-day event to reach out and show it off!
The celebration runs from August 10th-14th and kicks off with “Pride Night” at Friends Bar, a gay bar in the heart of Old Town Prague. Expect music and videos from Pride festivals all over the world! The next four days are filled with sports, movies, concerts, dance parties, and the like, including Pride editions of the traditional gay and lesbian Czech parties “BOYS Party” and “Freedom Night.” The “Big Day” (August 13th) features a festive parade that goes straight through the center of the city and culminates at Střelecky Island (located in the middle of the Vltava river) with a huge concert featuring many local and international stars.
Local organizations, companies, clubs, and bars have all pitched in to plan and fund events for the festival. “We want to show the general public and of course visitors from abroad, Prague can host a complete pride festival. Prague is one of Europe’s main LGBT travel destinations and we are organising a festival the city can be proud of” the organizing team said of the celebration.
Prague Pride promises to be a whole new Pride experience that focuses on building community, celebrating diversity, and making new friends! The Prague Pride team will be posting more events and the Pride concert line-up shortly! Stay tuned at PraguePride.com.
