The Best Global Destination winner is Rio de Janeiro. I've never been but I know it's all about the Carnival madness and sex, sex, sex. At least in my imagination it is.
Sunday's March: Lady Gaga, Cynthia Nixon, Lots of Inspiration & Youthful Energy
Yesterday's National Equality March in D.C. drew easily 200,000. I was there (we covered it live on 365Gay.com) and it was a pretty exuberant day. There were inspiring calls to actions by the rally speakers, and amazing signs with hilarious, sharp slogans toted as a couple hundred thousand gay rights supporters marched to the Capitol. And yep, Lady Gaga took the stage before the roaring masses, proclaimed it to be "the single most important moment in my career," and then spoke to the President, "Obama, I know you're listening!"
But what really was amazing was the range of the people who turned out. So many young people, from about 16 up. And some gays in their 80s! Also, there were many many straight couples out supporting LGBT rights... You couldn't peg the demographic as just white gay men. It was truly an impressive mix.
At the National Equality March: The kids are all right.
I'm gonna have more pics coming today... Click through or look below to watch Cynthia Nixon speaking.
Kathy Griffin & Her Crew Join the NO H8 Campaign. See Pics!!!
Team Griffin shows their support once again for the gays!
Kathy Griffin has once again shown why she is queen of the gays. Griffin and her entourage have all recently posed for the NO H8 campaign to show their support for arguably Kathy's biggest fan base. I didn't think I could love this woman anymore, but whether she's saying something highly offensive or fighting for gay rights, she's constantly winning me over! Check out the fabulous and hilarious pictures after the jump!
NYC Celebrates Pride; Stonewall's Street Kids Remembered
Yesterday, New York City celebrated Gay Pride and the 40th anniversary of Stonewall with the massive annual parade and street parties galore. News coverage paid homage too, with a great editorial in the NY Times from Frank Rich about how absurd it is that 40 years later, gays are still second-class citizens politicaly.NPR posted a really nice report focusing on how NYC's disenfranchised gay street kids were among those who fueled the rebellion at the Stonewall riots back in June 1969. And they speak with Carl Siciliano of NYC's Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and services to today's homeless queer youth in NYC. The report also includes interviews with Stonewall veterans, and LGBT youth now working to survive life after the street.
Stonewall Veterans in NYC's big gay parade yesterday.
Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black was among the parade's grand marshals. He's been an avid voice for empowering gay youth, too. Go Lance!
Pride Weekend Playlist: Miss Ross, Glambert & Some Weather Girls
"Mad World" - Adam Lambert on The Today Show
There are as many ways to get your groove on for Pride as there are floats in a parade, fruit flavors of vodka, or folks who can tell you where they were and how many bricks they threw at Stonewall.
So here's a little messy mix of Pride-weekend tunes to get you going. I've started off somberly above with pop music's newest gay, Adam Lambert, serving his "Mad World" to the masses from The Today Show. But then it's gonna get more into a mix of old (Diana Ross, The Weather Girls) to more recent (Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes) to cute and right now (Sam Sparro).
Pride Weekend Mega-Show: Stonewall 40th Anniversary Concert & Love Ball!
Advertised as the "Woodstock" of gay concerts, the Stonewall 40th Anniversary Commemorative Concert is set to turn NYC's Times Square on its gay ear when it serves up a night of great music and entertainment (while honoring the Stonewall riots, the catalyst for the gay rights movement, of course). Combining gospel singers, porn stars-turned-singers, and drag queen trios performing electropop (and lots, lots more), I highly doubt the concert won't keep you entertained.
Be sure to stick around after the show for the Love Ball after party at 10pm. Continuing in the theme of having the most eclectic group of performers, the Love Ball will feature tributes to Judy Garland, Broadway musicals, and the Harlem house balls. Expect lots of voguing, hot men, and plenty of dancing.
The list of performers for the big Stonewall Concert include a mega-list of fab out music artists. There's host Murray Hill, and then comes (stand back...) Billy Porter, Deepa Soul, Baron, Colton Ford, Jasper James & She Dick, Lori Michaels, Rachael Sage, Ari Gold, Ajoshua, Kin4Life, Christine Martucci, Jen Urban & The Box, The Maine Attraction, Jason Walker, The Lavender Light, Gospel Choir, DELI, Ron Morris, Johnny McGovern, Ariel & The Hired Guns. The event will also honor Jack Doroshow, the Legendary Mother Queen “Sabrina Flawless”, Mildred “Dred” Gerestant and Randy Jones, the original Cowboy from the Village People.
The concert takes place Saturday, June 27th, at 8pm at the Nokia Theater in Times Square, while the Love Ball starts at 10pm in the same theater. The concert and ball are sponsored by OutMusic in association with Saint at Large.
Check out pictures of the performers after the jump!
Nexty Winners The Fire and Reason to Rock NYC's Power Ball Tomorrow!
With the help of The Fire and Reason, winners of the Brink of Fame: New Artist at the NewNowNext Awards, the Power Ball, a celebration of the dance music community's commitment to expanding the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include LGBT people, should prove to be a great event. The celebration is run by The Power, an online organizing network dedicated to fighting for LGBT rights.
I'm all for supporting a good cause while partying, especially when there will be $3 Svedka until midnight! Other performers include Mel Merio, Grooveheadz Orchestra, DJ Kevin Graves, and DJ Christopher Just. There's a $5 minimum donation to get in, and will take place at Santos Party House in New York City. Make sure to squeeze it into all your pride partying!
Hot, talented, and supportive of the gay community? I think they're proving exactly why they won the Nexty for best up and coming artist.

Simon Doonan's Pride Tips: "Beautiful Moments" Vlog, Episode 5 - With Cher & Posh Spice!
We're in the midst of Pride Season, people! And who better to offer some guidance on how to get through all the parades, parties and vigils with grace and poise than style maven Simon Doonan. The dashing Brit, who's young life is the basis for Logo's delightful show Beautiful People, has seen his share of Gay Pride shenanigans. So soak up some of his wisdom!
Today, in our latest Beautiful Moments vlog, Simon divulges useful Pride tips: Make it glossy (it's all about "floral sheeting") and don't get too terribly wasted, if you can help it (Really, 20 margaritas is plenty, thanks.).
Also, we get Simon's personal stories of Pride, meeting Victoria & David Beckham (the Posh Spice doll factored into this week's Beautiful People, after all) -- and then Cher even makes a cameo!
Time for another round of Liz Dahmen and John Polly sounding off in a new vloggy mini-series called Amazing Gay Stuff, which you'll find here (and as part of Amazon’s Gay & Lesbian Store), and which will serve up fun rundowns of the best gay-related movies, DVDs, music, books and just about anything else that you need.
This week, John and Liz go broad when talking about "The Gay Essentials." What are some big basics you need to complete your gay world? Glad you asked! John and Liz touch upon books, movies, music, kitchen appliances and even some techie stuff that you need! From rice cookers to Harvey Milk to gender politics to lesbians toting guitars, they've got it covered!!! And like last time, all of the good stuff you hear about here can be found at Amazon.com.
Lady Bunny, Patricia Field & Cleve Jones Score amfAR Honors!
Hot host Alan Cumming and the amFAR-award-winning legendary Lady Bunny!
Last night in NYC, the esteemed AIDS-fighting/awareness-raising organization amfAR held its 10th-annual Honoring with Pride gala, in which the bestowed Courage Awards on three notables who've been fighting the battle against AIDS for years: drag legend Lady Bunny, fashion mogul Patricia Field, and long-time activist/Harvey Milk colleague/AIDS Quilt & NAMES Project founder Cleve Jones.
The shindig was held at the Edison Ballroom and was a pretty swank who's-who of NYC gay celebs, showbiz folks, fashion stars and all-around do-gooders! I went and snapped many pics, and rubbed elbows with Project Runway alums (Jack Mackenroth, Kevin Christiana & Christian Siriano), music stars (Debbie Harry, Ari Gold, Colton Ford), designers (Kenneth Cole, The Blonds) and all around glam types (Alan Cumming, Jenny Shimizu, Michael Musto, Cheyenne Jackson)...
Lady Bunny was the most garrulous award recipient, turning her acceptance speech into a rollicking and hilarious foul-mouthed monologue of zingers, teasing her old pal Pat Field, Flotilla, bragging that her hair was bigger & better than amfAR founder Dr. Mathilde Krim's, and generally cracking filthy jokes about servicing busboys ("See this trophy? Now, I'm an award-winning c***sucker!"). But truly, Bunny -- who founded Wigstock and has DJ'd more AIDS benefits than probably anyone -- has always, in her fabulously abrasive and smartly tart way been a champion of queer equality and AIDS awareness.
I came across the above well-made video (via Queerty), which sends out a pretty powerful message. It uses an audio excerpt (with some nice music mixed in) from a Harvey Milk speech to drive home the urgency that we have to elect gay people, and be visible as gay people to truly effect change and give young LGBT folks hope.
It's as relevant today (maybe moreso?) as it was 30 years ago... And it's good to remember here on International Human Rights Day.
Similar bits of this show up in the Milk film, which is riding a wave of year-end film critics awards. Mostly notably it just snagged the NY Film Critics Circle Award for Best Film. The same batch of movie mavens also named Sean Penn as Best Actor and Josh Brolin as Best Supporting Actor for Milk, too.
Given Harvey Milk's impactful message it's no wonder...
Ready for the STARS Ball? Justin was... And down on the floor, even the Hetrick-Martin staff were striking poses.
Were you out in high school? Did you have a posse of fabulous and devoted gay friends to call your own? How about your own ball-rocking "house" to back you up? If not, then you might learn a thing or two from the brave and brilliant kids who are served by the good folks at NYC's Hetrick-Martin Institute which provides services for at-risk (and just plain fierce) LGBT youth. Hetrick-Martin also runs the Harvey Milk High School, which was pretty much the first LGBT high school to provide a safe haven where endangered kids can get an education in peace.
All that said, the Hetrick-Martin kids now how to throw down and have a ball. Last Thursday was their annual STARS Ball, where the kids bring forth their "houses" for a voguing and walking competition that would make the LaBeijas and Extravaganzas of Paris Is Burning very, very proud. The houses competing included those of McQueen, Mujer, Mini, Mafia and the Pink Ladies.
We got to attend and snap some photos, and the evening was inspiring. The theme was "Disturbia" and the children infused the night's events with a vocal and thematic message about safe-sex and HIV Awareness. Most impressive was the confidence and fun that they all brought to the occasion. Gay, trans, lesbian -- all was represented and honored.
You get the idea... Just check out the pics and gag at the fabulosity, already. More details after the jump!
UPDATE: Kim Stolz Responds to "Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy Weighs in on Prop 8"
UPDATE: Kim Stolz herself has responded to my earlier comments about her brunch video. Here's what she had to say:
Thanks for including our clip in your post. I find it interesting though that you left off the following clip, given it was the true substance and meaning of the day.
At a time when the majority of one of our "blue" states voted to take away equal rights from the LGBT community, I find it interesting that you, a writer for virtually the only "gay" channel choose to insult and tear apart a member of the community who is fighting to get those rights back.
Anyone who knows me would tell you that I'm a fan of snark, sarcasm, and the like (see http://newsroom.mtv.com/2008/10/10/kim-stolz-responds-to-tyra-banks-dis-on-americas-top-model/), but there is a time and a place for it. During a critical moment of the gay rights movement (this generation's civil rights movement), why take a jab at someone who spent the weekend speaking at a gay rights rally so that you, me and every other LGBT person around us, can enjoy the same rights as our straight counterparts.
So Colin (with no last name, I add), who are you? Are you gay? Are you secretly supporting proposition 8? I'm not quite sure who you are, but I am sure of who I am, and I have been open about it for 10 years, and on national television. You might call that "self-involved." Others see it as being an active member of society -- fighting for the rights of those who are afraid to stand up themselves.
Perhaps if our community stops tearing each other apart and starts supporting each other's efforts, we will see the furthering of the gay rights movement, rather than the hindering of its members' efforts.
-- Kim Stolz
[Thanks for the response, Kim. I'm really flattered you took the time. And I think you're totally right in this instance: when members of my community take a stand against something like Prop 8, it's not really the time for me to be making jabs. But if you need any proof of my gayness, just watch that clip; it should clear any questions up.]
(And now for the original post, see below)
The Fall Out Boys stopped by Total Finale Live on Sunday - minus Pete Wentz; Ashlee will never have that ef-ing baby! - and even performed right on the Times Square streets. Now FOB is a gay-friendly band if there ever was one - Pete's totally OUT and The Advocate's favorite cover boy - but the whole crew is just as progressive and outspoken in support of the LGBTs. In fact, after the band's set I got in a question with lead singer Patrick Stump on his thoughts on Prop 8:
"Prop 8 is a load of crap, and I'm really bummed that it passed. It's in the hands of some people who are going to decide if it's constitutional, with the constitution of California, and hopefully they find in favor of civil rights.
The thing is, obviously we're heterosexuals - nothing negative is going to happen to us - but any threat to anyone's civil rights is a threat to everyone's civil rights."
You said it, Patrick! Ah, what a cool, intelligent guy. Check out Fall Out Boy's TRL performance and the rest of my Q&A after the jump. And for now, watch Kim Stolz of America's Next Top Model and awkward MTV news correspondent fame prepare for her speech at a Prop 8 protest.
Hmm... For some reason, watching an incredibly self-involved Kim have brunch with 15 people and pretending to care what they have to say isn't as exciting as I thought it would be. Oh, well.
OUT Covers Katy Perry, Cheyenne Jackson, Gus Van Sant & Sam Sparro
I know Katy's accustomed to being surrounded by gay men, but what a demure change for her ... especially after the Vans Warped Tour and that cake incident! As you can see, for its end-of-year double issue,OUT magazine chose director Gus Van Sant, Broadway fave Cheyenne Jackson, Australian singer Sam Sparro and fauxmosexual - but a big friend to the gays, nonetheless - Ms. Katy Perry to grace its cover ... and I liked it.
And as you may have read in previous posts, my idol Chelsea Handler will host OUT magazine's OUT 100 Party this Friday at Gotham Hall in New York - along with OUT's E-in-C, Aaron Hicklin - which will honor major movers for the gays in 2008.
Gay Men's Health Crisis & Tim Gunn Host NYC "Fashion Forward" Runway Show
GMHC CEO Marjorie Hill, Tim Gunn, Gretchen Monahan and Jack Mackenroth. All photos by Giovanni Koll, courtesy of GMHC.
Of course it was nice to see a runway show of select looks from six major designers - including the lovely Michael Bastian ensemble pictured below - and of course it was even nicer to know benefits of the Fashion Forwardfundraiser in New York went to the Gay Men's Health Crisis - but I have to say, the evening's highlight was hearing Malan Breton, pee-ing next to fellow Project Runway vet Suede, say in Malan's made-up accent, 'What a lovely fashion show!'
Kidding, kidding ... the event wasn't all about designer spotting and model ogling. And prior to the Tim Gunn-hosted runway show - which featured collections from Betsey Johnson, Ports 1961, Michael Bastian, Charles Nolan, Tim Hamilton and John Varvatos - both Jack Mackenroth and GMHC CEO Marjorie J. Hill gave genuine and moving speeches about what the organization has done and hopes to accomplish in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In addition, JackMack gave out scarves he designed for his new education campaign, Living Positive by Design.
Now bring on the skimpy male models! Lots of pictures after the jump...
Christina Aguilera & Fall Out Boy Are Disappointed by Prop 8
Well, it looks like a few celebrities are as confused and saddened as we are when it comes to the passage of Prop 8 in California. Both Christina Aguilera and Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy weighed in on the recent ban on same-sex marriage, expressing similar confusion over how Americans could push for such backward and discriminatory legislation in tandem with the historic and forward-thinking election of our first African-American president.
Out magazine has begin to tease this years Out 100, their annual list of "gay men and women who moved culture". Their first revealincludes out actors Luke Macfarlane,John Barrowman and Sir Ian McKellen, MSNBC rising star Rachel Maddow, actor Wilson Cruz, Ugly Betty producer Silvio Horta as well as newlyweds George Takei and Brad Altman.

Wow. Watching history in the making is exhausting. Here’s to history!
Without a doubt, this election has made use of technology in ways we couldn’t imagine even four years ago. So, it’s only appropriate that news networks pulled out all the high tech stops in reporting the results.
The strangest, by far, was the weird hologram of Jessica Yellin on CNN. Yellin was in Chicago at the huge rally for Obama, but her holographic image was “beamed in” to the studio for a conversation with Wolf Blitzer.
The Presidential hopeful recently took questions from MTV viewers, one of which asked him to clarify his stance on Proposition 8. As he has said before, he is opposed to gay marriage but does not support Proposition 8, which seeks to change California's state constitution to redefine marriage as between a man and a woman.
It's good that he's standing in clear opposition to the bill, but not necessarily the most encouraging way to kick off what is going to be two days of hang-wringing for many of us, huh?
Hey, Californians! Vote No on Prop 8 - Molly Ringwald & Margaret Cho Said So
As Ellen already told everyone, the upcoming ballot measure Proposition 8 could re-ban gay marriage in California. With scary-weird levels of money and support coming in for Prop 8, Molly Ringwald and Margaret Cho - along with a pair of "I'm a Mac" and "I'm a PC"-esque guys - put together these clever PSAs.
Check out the other three after the jump ... and round up supporters, West coast!
The GLSEN Awards took place over the weekend in Beverly Hills and a host of gay and gay-friendly stars came out in support of gay youth. Check 'em out!
Dirty Sexy co-stars Candis Canyne and William Baldwin
This really IS "so gay" ... and I mean that as a compliment.
The Advertising Council, a group that has been creating public service ad campaigns since 1942, is launching today the first campaign in its history to speak out against defamatory speech against gays and lesbians.
The campaign specifically tackles the troublingly popular phrase "That's so gay", which has become a common slang for "That's stupid" or "That sucks". The campaign has been produced to support GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) to combat the bullying of gay teens.
There are radio, television, and print ads in the campaign featuring celebs including teen queen Hilary Duff and comic Wanda Sykes, both of whom tell teenagers using the phrase "That's so gay" in a derogatory fashion to "Knock it off!"
As though we needed any more reason to love this woman, last night Ellen DeGeneres took the opportunity while guesting on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to urge the audience to vote against Proposition 8, which would take away the right of gay Californians (like her and new wife Portia) to marry. And Jay chimed in, noting that there's been gay marriage in his home state for a while and nothing terrible has happened, and asks if we don't have more important things to focus on right now as a country aside from taking away the rights of gays and lesbians.
It's all totally awesome until Jay dips into some pretty shecky humor with his dead-in-the-water joke about Gay Divorce Court, but hey ... you can't ask a zebra to change his stripes, right?
Give Janice Dickinson his number! Well, maybe not - the Olympics is one thing...
The out Australian diver who took the gold in Beijing this year got all primped and bronzed as thecover boy forDNA magazine. (Check out the site 'cause there's a nice close-up of Matt's happy trail ... We have to discuss something we didn't already see on the diving board.) I'm guessing there was an interview involved, but who cares?
Brad Pitt was camped out at #15 on this year's Hot 100 list but he
can probably look forward to a much higher ranking next year. The actor
has donated $100,000 to fight Proposition 8, which if passed would put
an end to gay marriages in California. His donation is thus far the largest donation by an A-list celebrity for this cause! Way to go, Brad! Here's the statement he released Wednesday:
"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though
they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life
they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination
has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against
Proposition 8."
Neil Patrick Harris fascinates me. Hot on the heels of his biggest endorsement deal (for Old Spice, not exactly a "gay" product by any means) he's pulled his highest-profile gay media move yet in gracing the cover of next month's Out magazine. And let's not even get into the Emmy nomination, the magic shows, the Sesame Street appearance, or Harold and Kumar. NPH continues to break the rules, and we love him for it.
NewNowNext at The Trevor Project Summer Gala Red Carpet
The Trevor Project, an outreach and suicide prevention effort for gay youth, held its 8th annual summer gala earlier this month, and we at NNN.com were there to interview all the gay celebs before the event (which we didn't get to go to, natch).
But! We still loved chatting up the evening's host / America's Gaysian Sweetheart, Alec Mapa, as well as famously-engaged couple George Takei and Brad Altman, Trevor Hero Award recipient Alan Cumming ... and more!
The Trevor Project will also be hosting the New York premiere of Sordid Lives: The Series July 15. We'll be there ... since we're all about after-parties for a good cause.
Jesse Brune From Work Out Takes on New York Pride, Hair Removal & Models in Their Underwear
Little gay dreams can come true: Not only did my future/possible/not really boyfriend Jesse Brune from Bravo's Work Out come to the LOGO offices to teach me how to play up my "twink factor" by using Nair for Men products and performing butt-rounding squats, he even snagged the LOGO mic at the New York Pride parade to chat up all his Nair models.
Yes, Jesse is now a hair-removal spokesman and - as Jesse reveals - there's so much more to models than chiseled abs ... sort of.
And after the jump, watch my chat with Jesse in our offices - and sorry for the lack of professionalism on my part, everybody.
Every year The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization that works to prevent suicide among gay and questioning youth, honors someone who can be an inspiration for queer youths with The Trevor Hero Award. Past recipients include Nathan Lane and author Michael Cunningham.
Gay marriages started in California yesterday (in case you haven't heard), and like with all major news stories, Jon Stewart and The Daily Show had the final, and funniest, word.
Jon starts out talking about the first marriage being performed "and yet, the state of California ... continues ... to ... exist". He then follows it up with the kicker, "BTW, if gay people are getting married in California, why is God taking it out on people in the Midwest?" He cracks wise about the historic implications, and makes a hilarious joke (which only he and Fran Drescher could get away with) about Jewish mothers, and then moves on to George Takei and his glistening abs (you'll have to watch the above clip to understand).
Kathy Griffin is everywhere these days. The D-List star just wrapped up hosting duties on Bravo’s A-List Awards, the fourth season of her reality show My Life on the D-List just premiered on June 12th, and if you live in Los Angeles (and can still afford the gas for your car) you can cruise down to Sunset and Laurel Canyon and find the fiery red head on her very own billboard promoting her new CD, For Your Consideration.
Griffin has purposefully released this live recording of her February 17th show at the Grand Theater Center for the Arts in California, not so her fans can have her sassy commentary on celebrities at the touch of an iPod, but rather, so she could be in contention for the one award that has seemingly eluded her (and that she could possibly be eligible for since I don’t think any of us are seeing Oscar in her future): the Grammy.
Tila Tequila Says: Gay People Can Get Married "Because of Me"
Oh, yes ... Say it again, Tila. Say it again! I was kind of - actually, completely - over Tila Tequila until she told USWeekly she greatly contributed to the California court's decision to lift the ban on gay marriage. Now I think she's completely fantastic. She actually said,
"It is because of me — I definitely think [my show] has helped the movement. Before it came out, everyone was still a little apprehensive about [same sex relationships]. Then they realized, 'Wow, everyone is really into this stuff, and it is fine.' The next thing you know, [gay marriage] is legal."
God bless Tila for getting straight men and lesbians to eat pig vagina on TV for the chance to make out with her. Looks like we made it!
L.A. Pride Madness! Olivia Newton-John, Kimberley Locke ... Charo!
Since we're also slow-roasting in New York today, how about a look at some hotness over on the West coast? Yup, L.A. Pride was in full-swing this weekend, and, to go along with our official, handy Pride Guide, enjoy a few choice photos of the California gays-gone-wild!
Don't forget the celebrity performances! I mean, who wasn't there? ... after the jump...
Anyone who says that gay men coming out in Hollywood doesn't make a difference should take a look at the coverage that this week's symbolic commitment ceremony in Los Angeles got in the mainstream entertainment press. T.R. Knight's star wattage (and, subsequently, Jay Leno's) attracted a great deal of attention to the event, which was co-hosted by Judy Shepard, the mother of Matthew and tireless supporter of gay rights.
The 19th annual GLAAD media awards were held in Hollywood on Saturday, and the the event was impressively heavy on star power. The ceremony was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, but Kathy Griffin opened the show — during her act she invited her mother onstage to quiz her about her knowledge of the LGBT
community.
The biggest award of the evening, the Vanguard Award, was given to Janet Jackson. Said Jackson in her acceptance speech, "To everyone at GLAAD and everyone in this room, I would just like to say
that I hope I can always walk worthy of this award that I have both in
my hand and my heart."
Canadian actor Luke MacFarlane, who plays the character of Scotty on Brothers & Sisters, has come out in an interview with the Canadian Globe and Mail. Regarding his decision to come out after years of speculation in the press regarding his sexuality, Macfarlane comments:
"I don't know what will happen professionally ... that is the fear, but I guess I can't really be concerned about what will happen, because it's my truth. ... There is this desire in L.A. to wonder who you are and what's been blaring for me for the last three years is how can I be most authentic to myself - so this is the first time I am speaking about it in this way."
Brandon Voss has a terrific interview with Moby in the upcoming issue of The Advocate. Moby has always been one of the biggest gay allies in pop music, even after his very public feud with Eminem in 2001, in which the rapper called him a "36 year old baldheaded fag". In the interview, Moby talks about why he would love to have gay children..
You’ve been such an ally to the gay community that you’ve taken some heat for it -- like when you stated in an interview that gays were “superior to straight people.” Do you stand by that?
Yeah, and I also said that if and when I ever have children, I want gay children, which didn’t really endear me to the Christian right wing of America. There are a lot of people in the world who are virulently homophobic or misogynistic or anti-Semitic, and what baffles me is that if you just look at it empirically, gays, women, and Jews are certainly responsible for far fewer violent crimes than straight white guys. They’ve started fewer wars, and they tend to be well educated, fun to hang out with, and they have nice homes, bars, and restaurants.
He also discusses his own sexuality, and the sexual experimentation he's done..
Oh, Snap! GLAAD Media Awards in NYC Red Carpet Pictures!
This past week, West Coast-ers played host for the HRC Gala, but last night, not to be outdone, New York welcomed its own wonderfully pro-gay event: the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - one of them, anyway. And it was a pretty ... attractive evening, judging from these red carpet photos.
Here we have Law & Order's Mariska Hargitay and Xanadu on Broadway's Cheyenne Jackson. I hope Mariska is asking if she can touch Cheyenne's rippling thighs. I mean, that's what I would do ifIever met him...
Martinis, y'all! As The World Turns' continually-stifled gay couple Van Hansis and Jake Silberman chill out with ... who? Tala Ashe? ...some other girl on the show, it would seem.
More gay pictures from the carpet after the jump...
Oh, Snap! Gay Celebrities Come Out for HRC Gala in L.A.!
The Human Rights Campaign Gala in Los Angeles played host to lovely gay and gay-loving celebrities Saturday - including Anne Hathaway, here with HRC president, Joe Solmonese. As if The Devil Wears Prada and her open love for her gay brother didn't give Anne enough gay cred - check out Queerty's interview with Anne Hathaway. She comments on that hateful Sally Kern and her first exposure to anti-gay sentiments...
"...around middle school, when people start throwing around things like 'Gay,' or 'You’re so gay' or 'You’re a faggot.' And I remember not
understanding what they were trying to say by that and being weirded
out by people who would say things like that. I would always speak up
and people would usually tell me to 'lighten up,' but I still don’t
think that’s the right attitude to take.
And what's this? Nia Vardalos from My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Wonderful! And lesbian Top Chef Cat Cora ... I loved her back in her Melting Pot Food Network days. What a night!
Crazy-Sexy Pictures from NYC Go-Go Tribute to Gay Nightlife!
Lost Boys creator/photographer, Russian-born Slava Mogutin, is back with his second monograph - and if these pictures are any indication, it's just as raunchy and wonderful as his debut. Who wouldn't want this on their coffee table?
Courtesy of publisher powerHouse, we got a few select pics from the upcoming NYC Go-Go, which depicts the shrinking gay party scene in downtown New York with shots from The Cock, Mr. Black and Boysroom. Yikes! I hope this kind of nightlife isn't dead.
You may have already popped over to the main page to read the highly-anticipated results of the First Annual AfterElton.com Gay People's Choice Awards Poll and Pizza Party Jamboree. And if you haven't, I'm going to spoil something for you: young Hollywood's Alpha Gay couple, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, did not take the top spot in the Favorite Gay Couple category.
Now, I'm not going to tell you who DID win, so you'll have to look for yourself. But if the above photo, taken recently at a party in New York City, is any indication, Harris and Burtka are one another's first prize.
Seriously, how adorable is that? (Thanks to WoW Report for posting the pic, photo credit to flaneur foto)
For the second year, the British edition of GQ magazine has listed Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish on their list of the most powerful men in Britain. The high profile couple are ranked at number 30 on the list and are the only case where two men share an entry. (Last year the couple shared the number 40 spot.)
This year's issue boasts a couple more gay men new to the list. Sir Ian McKellen comes in at number 98, while Spencer Livermore, Pink News' most powerful gay man in British politics, debuts at number 84.
On February 23rd the Human Rights Campaign will hold their
big annual NY fundraising dinner (“Gala
2008”), and they’ll be honoring the lovely Vanessa Williams with this year’s “Ally For Equality” Award.
I’m a big fan of Vanessa and certainly don’t begrudge her
the honor, but it seems like the recipient of this annual HRC award is always a
big name celebrity who’s appearance at the fundraiser helps to sell tickets. (Last
year’s recipient was Matthew Broderick.)
Alright, this is really sweet: actor Colin Farrell (who played bisexual in A Home at the End of the World, gay-ish in Alexander, and was "discovered" by Joel Schumacher, make of that what you will) will be playing the role of Best Man when his brother, dance teacher Eamon Farrell, weds his boyfriend Steven Mannion. The brothers (Eamon is the elder) are apparently quite close and Colin reportedly helped his big bro pick out the wedding ring.
My my my, what is going on Down Under with all these gay guys in entertainment coming out willy-nilly?!
Recently the lead singer of alternative rock band Faker, Nathan Hudson, spoke about his sexuality for the first time to a magazine, noting:
“My association with being gay was that it was bad and dark and not good for you. I had trouble finding people to look up to ... I’m happy to talk about being gay for that kid in the suburbs who’s 15 and scared.”
Yesterday afternoon at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, GLAAD unveiled its nominations for the 2007 GLAAD Media Awards, spanning television, film, journalism, music, theatre, books and more.
You can find the full list of nominees after the jump, but there are a few we'd like to highlight:
Documentary on Gay, Black Civil Rights Leader Bayard Rustin on LOGO
Tomorrow night, LOGO will air the film Brother Outsider; the documentary presents the life of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. Despite his critical role in the fight for black equality in the U.S. and his close work with Martin Luther King, Jr., Rustin never became a well-known historical figure. Why the "outsider" status? Sadly, it was because Rustin was openly gay.
Read more about Bayard Rustin - and the documentary - after the jump...
If you've been watching Project Runway this season, chances are you're a fan of Chris March. He may not be a front-runner to win, but the NYC costume designer's sweet nature and winning personality have made him an audience favorite. (The occasional f*g joke notwithstanding.) Chris was actually voted offof PR early on, but the producers brought him back when Jack Mackenroth fell ill and had to drop out.
