Princeton Review Ranks 20 Most (And Least) LGBT-Friendly Colleges In America

The Princeton Review has released its list of the top 20 most LGBT-friendly colleges in the United States.  The annual survey asked 126,000 students at 378 top colleges to rate their schools on a variety of subjects relating to academics, administrators and campus life. (Students ranked their campus on a five-point scale for each question.)

So which schools were most gay-friendly, according to their student body?

  • Emerson College (Boston, Mass.)

  • Warren Wilson College (Asheville, N.C.)

  • New College of Florida (Sarasota, Fla.)

  • Stanford University (Stanford, Calif.)

  • University of Wisconsin-Madison (Madison, Wis.)

  • Oberlin College (Oberlin,Ohio)

  • Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering (Needham, Mass.)

  • Smith College (Northampton, Mass.)

  • New York University

  • Bryn Mawr College (Bryn Mawr, Pa.)

  • Wellesley College (Wellesley, Mass.)

  • Bennington College (Bennington, Vt.)

  • University of Chicago

  • Yale University (New Haven, Conn.)

  • Carleton College (Northfield, Minn.)

  • Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, N.Y.)

  • Macalester College (St. Paul, Minn.)

  • Pitzer College (Claremont, Calif.)

  • Marlboro College (Marlboro, Vt.)

  • Grinnell College (Grinnell, Iowa)

    • This marks the second year in a row Boston's Emerson College topped the list.

    The education-services company also tracked the universities that were the most LGBT-unfriendly.

  • Hampden-Sydney College (Hampden-Sydney, Va.)

  • College of the Ozarks (Point Lookout, Mo.)

  • Wheaton College (Wheaton, Ill.)

  • University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, Ind.)

  • Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah)

  • Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, N.C.)

  • Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Mich.)

  • University of Rhode Island (Kingston, R.I.)

  • University of Dallas (Irving, Texas)

  • Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas)

  • Baylor University (Waco, Texas)

  • Trinity College (Hartford, Conn.)

  • Auburn University (Auburn, Ala.)

  • Colgate University (Hamilton, N.Y.)

  • Wofford College (Spartanburg, S.C.)

  • Hillsdale College (Hillsdale, Mich.)

  • Catholic University of America (Washington, D.C.)

  • Pepperdine University (Malibu, Calif.)

  • University of Wyoming (Laramie, Wyo.)

    • Grove City College is an Evangelical Christian college in Pennsylvania about an hour north of Pittsburgh. College president Richard Jewell said, "The two tenets that this school is most about are faith and freedom."
