Pro Strongman Rob Kearney Comes Out As Gay

Professional strongman Rob Kearney, currently ranked second in the world in the middleweight division, came out last week on Facebook—making him the first openly gay competitor at the pro level.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

In an interview with fellow bodybuilder Christian Matyi, Kearney said,  "I thought it was important to be honest. People need to know that one of the top strength athletes on the planet is also gay." He also described a Facebook message from a fellow competitor who professed to be anti-gay, but that Kearney's coming out helped him rethink his own positions around masculinity and sexuality.

Now that's strength.
