Prolific Actor Mickey Rooney Dead At 93

Rooney was considered one of the biggest Old Hollywood stars of his time and was even voted as the biggest box office draw in the years 1939, 1940, and 1941 after his rise to stardom at the age of 19 playing Andy Hardy in thirteen films.  He starred alongside Hollywood legends like Judy Garland, Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor, and Carmen Miranda.  Despite his success, Rooney's personal life was often tumultuous.  The actor battled alcoholism and a severe gambling addiction, having blown through over $12 million dollars before the age of 40.  He was married eight times throughout his life; his wives included Ava Gardner and Martha Vickers.

In the later years of his life, Rooney conquered his addictions and became a born-again Christian. He had nine children and is survived by his eighth wife, Jan Chamberlin.
