A lot of people think Puerto Rico is all Jennifer Lopez in big hoop earrings driving around blasting reggaeton as they scope out bars with no cover. That simply isn’t he case. Puerto Rico combines colonial architecture with breathtaking scenery. It offers cultural events, beautiful resorts, and, yes, plenty of spots to get crunk and shake your butt to some authentic reggaeton.
The country’s gay scene is concentrated in San Juan off the Condado where there are a number of gay clubs, cafes and beach hideaways to keep you entertained. Be sure and pay a visit to the company that keeps you making drunken decisions and tour the Bacardi Distillery.
Puerto Rico is more known among tourists for its beautiful beaches and colonial architecture than for its clubbing. Don’t be surprised if many of its gay clubs seem like a room with a spinning light and a boom box. So be adventurous on your visit to Puerto Rico. Go scuba diving or spelunking. Explore nature. Spend time with your adopted kids. Check out La Paguera, Puerto Rico’s coastal mangrove system with bioluminescent sea-life. Bioluminescent, that’s fun to say. Bioluminescent.
If you’re in need of some ultra relaxation and privacy, head over to the island’s west coast and enjoy one of those resorts without phones or TV that recording artists always go to when they drop an album that doesn’t sell. This part of the island is a great place for total seclusion with a loved one. And who knows, you might just bump into J-Lo.
