Given Queen Latifah's success in Hollywood over the past decade, starring in films including Last Holiday, What Happens In Vegas and The Secret Life of Bees while also garnering an Oscar nod for her role in Chicago, it can be easy to forgot that this is the woman considered by some to the the first lady of hip-hop. Latifah has in no way abandoned her singing career, but will be seen again on the big screen January 13 alongside Dolly Parton in the new film Joyful Noise.

For Latifah, her decision to star in the new film was a bit of a no brainer it seems. "I felt that its timely, uplifting story was perfect for me, given what’s going on in the world right now. And I already loved the studio, Alcon Entertainment. They’ve made a lot of nice movies in the past [The Blind Side, Dolphin Tale, etcetera], and they really do a great job of marketing their films. And I liked the idea of working with Dolly Parton and Keke [Palmer]."

As for future films, there are a few remakes Latifah would be happy to participate in. "The James Earl Jones and Diahann Carroll film Claudine. Or maybe Taps the military story starring Tom Cruise and Sean Penn. But that one’s all boys so I probably couldn’t do that one anyway."

And, given that she has one toe in the acting world and one in the singing, there is of course the inevitable question as to whether or not she plans on stopping by Glee for a guest stint. "Whenever they invite me. I would love to," Latifah says.
