The Queen

RuPaul’s Drag Race didn’t exist in the pre-Stonewall 1960s, but shade, sickening looks, and spilling tea sure did, and it's all here in this fierce 1968 documentary. Restored to coincide with Stonewall50, it charts behind-the-scenes drama while queens vie for the prize at the 1967 Miss All-America Camp Beauty Pageant (judges included Andy Warhol and muse Edie Sedgwick) and features legendary house mother Crystal LaBeija, who formed House of LaBeija. This is some must-see film herstory, henny. (Playing Now)

Pride: Celebrating 50 Years

To warm you up for Sunday’s climactic WorldPride march and parties, Michael Urie hosts an original 30-minute NBC special featuring Billy Porter, Adam Rippon, Asia Kate Dillon, Carson Kressley, Le DeLaria, Lady Bunny, Brita Filter, Wilson Cruz, and more. Touching on LGBTQ trailblazers, coming-out stories, the rise of drag, and where Pride goes from here, it promises to pack a lot in. (June 29 on WNBC)

Are You the One?

The eighth season of MTV’s dating show about 16 singles attempting to find the perfect match and share a $1 million prize adds a major twist with an entirely sexually fluid cast. Helping these lusty contestants—all aged between 21 and 27—negotiate dating, love, and drama is LGBTQ relationship expert Dr. Frankie and returning host Terrence J. Here’s hoping for a pansexual poly edition next year titled Are You The Ones? (Wednesdays on MTV)

Los Espookys

While HBO’s Euphoria seems to be getting all the press—I mean, sure, we like Zendaya and penises—we’re here for this loopy, queer, Latinx series from queer comedians Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega. Torres also co-stars as a gay, blue-haired chocolate dynasty heir smitten with an ambitious, narcissistic boyfriend (José Pablo Minor) who’s so superficial that he refuses to even look at “ugly” people. Twisted, funny stuff. (Airing now on HBO)

Stonewall Uprising

Just you wait. By mid-July you’ll actually be going though Stonewall50 withdrawal. Meanwhile, take in this stellar documentary based on David Carter’s book Stonewall: The Riots That Sparked The Gay Revolution. (Streaming now on PBS)

Tales of the City

If you aren’t an Acorn TV subscriber, good news: The original 1993 six-episode Tales of the City miniseries is now on Netflix too. Based on Armistead Maupin’s first Tales book, which is set in 1976, it originally aired on PBS. Sadly, Netflix subscribers in America must wait on Showtime’s sequels, More Tales of the City (1998) and Further Tales of the City (2001), which are now available on Netflix Canada and Australia. Perhaps another reason, besides universal healthcare, to relocate… (Streaming now on Netflix)

To Be Me

Nonbinary trans female actor Kate Rose Wilburn turns in a raw, affecting star performance as Jordan, a young African American who always felt they landed somewhere unmapped on the gender spectrum. Returning home from college, they must share this truth with their religious Midwestern father, William (Emmy winner Kim Estes). Transgender model Corey Rae plays Jordan’s best friend, Kouri, in the under-the-radar six-episode series. (Streaming now on Revry)

Bangkok Love Stories

A perk of Netflix as it's gone global is our access to a ballooning, subtitled library of original international content. That includes this Thailand-made romance anthology series. Last year’s Bangkok Love Stories: Innocence featured a gay story line (and hot male strippers), so there’s a chance we’ll see more LGBTQ representation in its latest two editions, BLS: Objects of Affection and BLS: Plead. (Premieres July 2 on Netflix)

Stranger Things

We’re still hoping Barb, played by bisexual actress Shannon Purser, will make a cameo. That failing, Season 3 at least brings back swaggering Aussie actor Dacre Montgomery as mulleted bad boy Billy. Fun fact: He’s from Perth, the same city as the late Heath Ledger. (Premieres July 4 on Netflix)
