Rapper Wale Is Ready For Gays In Hip-Hop: “It’s 2015 – That Homophobic Stuff Is Corny"

Though his forward thinking is not entirely there yet, citing Frank Ocean's coming out as an "advantage" for him winning his Grammy's.

Rapper Wale is ready for a gay rap rapper – though his reasoning might be a little less articulate.

during an appear on Power 105.1 FM’s Breakfast Club earlier this week, the subject turned to VH1's recent Out In Hip Hop special.

"Of course," Wale responded straightaway when asked if hip-hop was ready for an openly gay rapper.

“If a dude was gay, man, he would, what, he’d get a Grammy. They’re gonna make fun of them. They’re gonna throw their Twitter jokes. But in the next three years there’s probably gonna be a dude who’s not even gay that’s just like ‘Man, this is my last resort.'"

Would Wale sign a gay rapper if given the chance? Yes. "If he was dope. You better go ahead and do that thing. You better go ahead and do them Versace fashion shows. Tell Ricardo Tisco, give them my sizes while I'm out there."

He continued...

“It’s 2015 – that homophobic stuff is corny, for real. I’m uncomfortable with certain things, that’s because I never grew up around it. I'd be uncomfortable with two old people kissing because I never saw affection, my parents never kissed in front of me. My mother never said 'I love you' to me."

Wale's comments then ebbed into the semi-controversial when he called being gay an "advantage," citing out crooner Frank Ocean (whom he did call "a hero, a pioneer"), who Wale feels would not have experienced such success had he not come out of the closet.
