R&B Singer Ne-Yo Clears Things Up About Gay Rumors

After reading an article claiming he was gay—and that Caitlyn Jenner's decision to come out inspired him to do the same—R&B singer Ne-Yo took to Twitter to clear things up for his fans.

U should all know by now not to believe everything you read. Much luv to #CaitlynJenner but I'm not on that team. Not gay folks. So sorry.

NewsBuzzDaily quoted the "She Knows" singer as saying Jenner "gave me the inner strength to admit to my kids, my family, my friends, my fans and ultimately to myself that I am gay."

"I’ve known I was gay since I was a young boy that I was attracted to the other boys. As a black man, we fear gayness instead of embracing it," he was reported as saying. “I thought it was a phase, I thought I could surpress these gay emotions."

The story alleged Ne-Yo was seeing another male celeb, but quoted the singer as saying "let him reveal himself when the time is right.”

After calling out the "interview" as a fake, Ne-Yo posted a second message  to reinforce his support for Caitlyn and the gays.

No disrespect to the gay community or to #CaitlynJenner by the way. Live your life and be proud. I'm just not gay. We're still on this? #sad — NE-YO!! (@NeYoCompound) June 5, 2015

Finally, he turned the entire situation on its head by posting a critique of the American media to his Instagram account:

No disrespect....but word.

Alright, we get it: you're not gay. But why exactly was Caitlyn Jenner dragged into this mess? And are we really trying to conflate trans identities with gay identities and vice versa?

What do you think of Ne-Yo's statements?
