In some parts of the world, redheads get a bum deal. But like us, photographer Thomas Knight has a love for the gingers and is preaching the carrottop gospel in his photo show “Red Hot,” coming to BOSI Gallery in New York in September.
The show, which first ran in London’s Covent Garden last year, features 64 shirtless red-haired models that make us want to get caught red-handed—including Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford.
“Guys with red hair don’t have the positive role models that girls do in our culture,” says Knight on the exhibit website. “A male with red hair is not seen as aspirational, culturally speaking, with very few leading men, heroes, action stars or heartthrobs played by men with red hair in Hollywood or on our TV screens.”
Knight says redheads are often subject to teasing and bullying. “For some of those on the receiving end, the impact to their self esteem is felt much more deeply and can have lasting, detrimental effects at school and way into their adult life.”
A portion of proceeds from sales of prints and a Red Hot 100 coffee table book benefit anti-bullying charities.
Red Hot opens at BOSI Gallery in Manhattan on September 3.
