Trump Advisor: "Religious Freedom" Executive Order Is Still On Its Way

"There is a war on Christianity in America."

A trump advisor has said that the controversial "religious freedom" executive order that leaked to the press earlier this month is still very much in the works, even as White House officials have played it down.

Former Ohio Secretary of State and current domestic policy chair Ken Blackwell revealed the news in a recent interview on SiriusXM Progress, saying, “If there is no executive order, that will disappoint [social conservatives]. But a good executive order will not. So we’re still in the process.”

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 28: President Donald Trump signs three executive actions in the Oval Office on January 28, 2017 in Washington, DC. The actions outline a reorganization of the National Security Council, implement a five year lobbying ban on administration officials and a lifetime ban on administration officials lobbying for a foreign country and calls on military leaders to present a report to the president in 30 days that outlines a strategy for defeating ISIS. The leaked draft granted broad exemptions for businesses and individuals to discriminate in employment, housing, goods and services—even government contracts—based on gender identity, sexual orientation, reproductive choices and more.

Originally, administration officials said the EO was one of hundreds circulating within the White House and claimed that it was not a high priority.

However, Blackwell, a senior fellow at the anti-LGBT Family Research Council, has confirmed that it's far from dead and is currently being restructured by Ken Klukowski, the former director of the Family Research Council’s Center for Religious Liberty.

“In the final analysis, what we want is an executive order that will meet the scrutiny of the judicial process,” he explained, suggesting that the original order may have been dropped because it would have been too vulnerable to legal challenges.

Blackwell went on to describe the "anchor concept" of the order as one that will allow those with deeply held religious beliefs to refuse business to LGBT people.

“I think small business owners who hold a religious belief that believes that traditional marriage is between one man and one woman should not have their religious liberty trampled upon,” he stated.

Building on Blackwell's statements, Klukowski added: "There is a war on Christianity in America.... There has been unprecedented hostility against people of devout faiths in recent years. So the problem is there. It’s been clearly defined. The president is aware of it.”

“And I’m confident that the president is showing... that he keeps his promises, even when they’re things that an establishment player would never do," he continued. "And I’m confident that he’s going to keep his promise when it comes to protection of religious liberty as well.”
